Dialog 1 read between the lines [ 行間を読む ]
| Angela: | Are you going to apply for that job in the paper? |
| Yukio: | No. The want ad says they are looking for someone who is "highly motivated to make money" and "enjoys a challenging environment." |
| Angela: | What's wrong with that? Sounds good to me. |
| Yukio: | You have to read between the lines. It means that this is a very stressful sales position. No, thanks! |
| Angela: | Oh, I see. |
Dialog 2 no pain, no gain [ 苦労なくして得るものなし ]
| Angela: | What was your work-out routine before you became an Olympic champion? |
| Yukio: | I used to run about ten kilometers every morning and evening. I also used to do sprint workouts around the track for two hours everyday and run in the mountains on the weekends. |
| Angela: | Wow! That sounds exhausting! |
| Yukio: | Well, no pain, no gain. |
